Harkavy Matches One School Record, Breaks Two Others
TOWSON, Md. — With today's victory, the Gophers match the winningest season in program history with 12 wins.
Goucher (12-4-2) got on the scoreboard when Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) converted a jumping header from the middle of the box off a Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) corner kick.
Buskey's goal gave her 13 goals and 33 points on the year, the most since Sisley Pumilia had 23 goals and 54 points in 2008, both school records.
The sophomore currently leads the Landmark Conference in points per game and assists and is second in goals and points.
Coming out of intermission, Davis set up another goal to double the lead. After placing the ball for a free kick after a foul, she fooled the defense by passing it short to Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) on the wing. The sophomore carried the ball into the box, taking a shot from a difficult angle with the outside of her foot.
With the insurance goal, the Gophers cruised easily, holding a 25-3 edge in shots.
Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) only needed to make two saves to keep Bryn Mawr (4-10-3) off the scoreboard.
The freshman keeper matched the individual shutout record (6) and helped the Gophers extend the team shutout record (12) set earlier this year. She also sets the school record for lowest goals against average (0.27) and best save percentage (.947) in a single campaign.
Before the game, the team honored its three seniors, Kitty McIlroy (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills School), Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and Sarah Eaby (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School).
"Our seniors have helped to redefine our program," said head coach Tati Korba. "They have helped raise the bar and changed the expectations and culture with our team. We will miss them as players, but moreso as leaders and teammates. Their contributions to this program cannot be overstated."
The only other Goucher team with 12 wins was the 1994 squad which finished with a 12-3-2 mark.
