Conference Recognizes Defensive Effort From Right Back
TOWSON, Md. — In recognition of a exceptional week, the Landmark Conference named Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) the conference's Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 22-28.
Davis becomes the third Goucher freshman to earn the honor this year and the fourth Athlete of the Week on the team. Freshman goalkeepers Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) and Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) were dubbed the top defenders while Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) previously was named the best on offense.
Davis anchored a defensive line that did not cede a goal in two games this week, only giving up five shots on goal total. The team finished level with Marymount (Va.) 0-0 and defeated Bryn Mawr 2-0.
The two shutouts were the 11th and 12th clean sheets on the year for the team.
In the 2-0 win, Davis had a hand in both goals, assisting off of set pieces. The right back's corner kick found Buskey's head to start the scoring and a short pass to Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) gave the Gophers an insurance goal.
