TOWSON, Md. — Two players who combined to score 21 goals this season and another who suffered a serious knee injury as a junior but recovered to re-establish her position as a topflight defender are Goucher's three representatives on the 2012 All-Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Team.
The team was released in its entirety this morning and is made up of 24 student-athletes who were chosen through balloting by the conference's seven head coaches. The selections were made by position and 12 players were placed on the All-Landmark first team and the remaining 12 on the second team.
Of the 12 first-team selections, the only one from Goucher is sophomore midfielder Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's), who supplied the Gophers with eight goals and four assists in 2012. Only four players in the Landmark Conference surpassed Puopolo's total of 20 points.
Puopolo joins Sisley Pumilia (2010) as the only two Goucher players to earn first-team all-conference honors since the school joined the Landmark Conference.
Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) and Kitty McIlroy (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills School) both landed on the All-Landmark second team. Buskey, who was voted Rookie of the Year in the Landmark Conference in 2011, repeated as a second-team forward after her 13-goal, seven-assist performance as a sophomore. As the only senior on Goucher's defensive unit, McIlroy played a key role in the Gophers shutting out 12 opponents on their way to allowing only 0.72 goals per game.
