TOWSON, Md. – Entering tonight's match, Goucher had not lost to McDaniel in the last four meetings between the in-state rivals. That streak, however, came to a close at Beldon Field, with the Green Terror scoring a pair of goals in each half en route to a 4-0 victory.
The defeat was the second in a row at home for the Gophers (2-5-1), while McDaniel (6-2) won its third-straight match.
McDaniel held a 15-8 edge in shots. Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) led the Gopher attack with three shots, including two on goal.
The Green Terror jumped out to an early lead, with Meghan Sturgill opening up the scoring in the eighth minute of the contest. McDaniel doubled its advantage 10 minutes later after Sam Wilson headed in a corner kick from Erica Diffendal.
Nicole Hill and Maggie Quinn each scored their fifth goals of the season early in the second half to round out the scoring for the Green Terror.
Liz Stradtman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), who played 60 minutes in relief of starter Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway), made a career-high four stops in goal for Goucher. Gopher defenders also made two key team saves in the first half to keep the game within reach.
After four consecutive home games, the Gophers will look to get back on track on the road at Washington (Md.) this Saturday. The Shorewomen are currently 3-3-1 on the season.
