TOWSON, Md. — Goucher made Albright the fifth team on a list of opponents that it has shut out so far in 2013. The Gophers limited the Lions to only five shots the entire contest and picked up a 1-0 victory tonight in the final non-conference tune-up prior to their first Landmark Conference game of the season on Saturday against Scranton.
Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) set up the contest's only goal by beating a couple of Albright defenders with the dribble and slipping the ball through to Katherine Matthew-Parker (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal), who deposited a shot from 18-yards out into the upper left at 26:15.
It was Matthew Parker's first goal of the season.
The defense and sophomore goalkeeper Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) took over after Matthew-Parker got the Gophers (4-5-1) on the scoreboard and kept the Lions (4-4-1) off it for the remaining 63:45. Harkavy made her only save of the first half on a shot in the 18th minute by Mel Sullivan; she added two more in the second period to finish with three.
With the shutout, which was her fifth of the season, Harkavy lowered her goals-against average to 1.52. In addition, the shuout was the 11th during her two seasons with the Gophers, making her only the second goalkeeper in the history of Goucher's women's soccer program to surpass 10 shutouts.
