TOWSON, Md. — Goucher had an answer for the first goal Lancaster Bible scored in this afternoon's game, but not for the one the Chargers tallied in the 76th minute that allowed them to depart Beldon Field with a 2-1 victory over the Gophers.
The Gophers, in fact, responded quickly to the unassisted goal that Monica Horning scored at 29:09 to put the visitors up 1-0. They got it back just over two minutes later when Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) drilled a cross from the right side by Stephanie Budrock (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) into the lower right corner for her second goal of the season.
The 1-1 lasted until Sarah Heilenman got off a long free kick for the Chargers (9-3) that came down in the box and was knocked in from out of a scramble by Kirsten Webster.
The Gophers (4-7-1), who finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in the second half, got off two shots following Webster's tie-breaking goal. The first one, by Katherine Matthew-Parker (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal), went wide and the second, by Brooke Merchant (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Wootton), sailed high.
