Sipiczky Notches First Goal in 3-1 Setback to Rangers
MADISON, N.J. — Following basically the same script for the third game in a row, Goucher spotted its opponent the first goal, came back to even the score before the end of the first half, but then surrendered another goal in the second half that provided the opponent with a lead it would not relinquish.
MADISON, N.J. — Following basically the same script for the third game in a row, Goucher spotted today's opponent the first goal, came back to even the score before the end of the first half, but then surrendered another goal in the second half that provided the opponent with a lead it would not relinquish. Drew, today's opponent, actually tacked on two goals in the second half to gain a 3-1 victory over head coach Tati Korba's Gophers.
The win allowed the Rangers to maintain sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference.
The first 12 shots of today's contest all belonged to Drew and it was the 12th one that put the Rangers (12-1, 4-0 Landmark) up 1-0. Mel Santos was able to get her head on a free kick from Katie O'Keefe and guide it into the net at 27:27.
The Gophers (4-9-1, 0-3 Landmark) didn't trail for long, however. Moriah Sipiczky (Holiday, Fla./Anclote) found herself in a 1v1 with the goalie and, after beating her, fired a shot into an open net at 28:29.
It was the first goal of the freshman forward's collegiate career.
The two teams combined for only eight shots the entire second half, but Drew turned two of its six into goals. The Rangers regained the lead at 63:58 on a goal by Emma Campbell that was assisted by O'Keefe and went up 3-1 in the 75th minute on a goal by Liz Loiodice that was set up by Caroline Kuras.
Goucher's only two shots of the second half were an attempt by Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) in the 80th minute that went high and one by Sipiczky with six minutes remaining that goalie Sara Nash of the Rangers turned away for her only save of the period.
