TOWSON, Md. — Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway), who is on the verge of becoming the all-time leader in shutouts for the Goucher women's soccer program, today was named Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for October 21-27.
The sophomore goalkeeper started both games the Gophers played during the week. She made four saves while playing all 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Catholic, giving her six shutouts this season, which tied the program record that was established by Lauren Pozsonyi in 1995 and duplicated by Kellen Matthews in 2008 and by Harkavy herself as a freshman a year ago.
Two days ago in a 1-0 triumph over Susquehanna, before Anja Opsahl (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) tallied the game-winning goal nearly 18 minutes into overtime, Harkavy kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard by turning away all seven of their shots on goal. Her seventh shutout of the 2013 campaign not only broke the single-season record, but it also moved Harkavy within one shutout of tying the career record of 14 currently held by Matthews (2007-10).
The two shutouts lowered Harkavy's goals against average for the season to 1.68.
