ROSEMONT, Pa. — Goucher prepared for its upcoming win-and-you're-in game against Moravian by picking up its sixth 1-0 victory of the season tonight, this one over Rosemont.
As she has been seven other times this season for the Gophers, sophomore goalkeeper Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) was the author of a shutout tonight. She made just two saves in the first half, but added six more over the final 45 minutes as the Ravens (11-6) finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots.
The eighth shutout extends the Goucher women's soccer program's single-season record that Harkavy claimed all to herself on Saturday when the Gophers blanked Susquehanna, 1-0 (2OT). Including the six she was responsible for as a freshman in 2012, Harkavy is now tied with Kellen Matthews (2007-10) at 14 for the most career shutouts in program history.
The game's only goal was scored in the 34th minute by junior midfielder Staci Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y./Pleasantville). Samantha Turner (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) got off a shot for the Gophers (7-9-1) that was stopped by the opposing goalkeeper, but Tomasetti was the first to get to the rebound and was able to punch it in for her first goal of the season.
Harkavy's final save of the contest was on a header by Stephanie Tamburro with just over five minutes left to play. Neither team got off another shot the rest of the way.
Next up for head coach Tati Korba's Gophers is Saturday's game against Moravian in Bethlehem, Pa. If they knock off the Greyhounds, they clinch a berth in the Landmark Conference's upcoming postseason tournament and will be the No. 4 seed.
