TOWSON, Md. — With freshman forward Brianna Hite (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) and sophomore forward Stephanie Budrock (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) supplying the goals, Goucher earned its first victory of the young season this afternoon, a 2-0 triumph over Eastern Mennonite.
Hite's unassisted goal midway through the first half had head coach Tati Korba's Gophers up 1-0 when the two teams departed Beldon Field after 45 minutes. The score didn't change until freshman defender Sasha Jimenez (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) set up Budrock's goal at 63:14.
The Gophers (1-0-1) finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots.
The closest the Royals (0-2) came to scoring was on a shot that Nora Osei took less than two minutes after Hite's goal, but junior Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), who started in goal for Goucher, stopped it for her only save of the contest.
Rudolph owned a career 0.98 goals against average heading into this season, and by not allowing a goal in the first two games, she's managed to lower it to 0.83.
The Gophers will wrap up a three-game homestand and look to remain unbeaten through the first three games of a season for only the second time during Korba's tenure when they host Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m.
