WASHINGTON, D.C.. — Stephanie Budrock (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) tallied her team-leading third goal of the season in the 53rd minute to provide Goucher with a 1-0 lead over Marymount and the Gophers went on to defeat the Saints, 2-0, this evening in the 2015 D.C. Women's Soccer Classic.
Goucher's second game of the tournament will be on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Randolph.
Despite a 6-0 advantage in shots in the first half, it wasn't until Budrock knocked a ball served to her inside the box by Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) through the legs of the opposing keeper at 52:24 that the Gophers realized a 1-0 lead. Dating back to last season, the junior forward has either scored at least one goal or handed out a pair of assists for five consecutive games.
It wasn't until there were less than three minutes remaining in the contest that an unassisted goal by Samantha Turner (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) put Goucher up 2-0.
The Gophers (3-0-1) finished with a 15-4 edge in shots.
With her two-save performance, senior Julianna Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) earned the 16th shutout of her career at Goucher. Erin Harris stopped six shots for the Saints (3-2).
