ASTON, Pa. — It took a 19-save performance by the opposing keeper to hold Goucher to one goal and a goal by Neumann in the 84th minute to forge a 1-1 draw between the Gophers and Knights this afternoon.
Gaby Davis (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) put Goucher up 1-0 when she tallied an unassisted goal at 27:27. It was the second goal of the season for the senior midfielder, bumping her career total to nine.
It wasn't until after the Gophers (8-6-3) took the lead that the Knights (3-12-1) attempted their first shot of the contest. By halftime, head coach Tati Korba's squad owned a 13-4 advantage in shots, but Kristen Montgomery had already racked up eight saves in goal for the home team.
Montgomery stopped eight more shots in the second half, keeping the score at 1-0 until Kahlyn Ford tied it up with just 6:45 remaining in regulation. Ford knocked in the rebound after goalkeeper Juliana Harkavy (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway) of the Gophers made a save on a shot by Lexi Casper.
Harkavy made her fifth and final save of the contest on a shot by Jaime King in the finsl minute of regulation, while Montgomery added three to her total in the first 10-minute overtime period by turning away shots by Jessica Leffers (Germantown, Md./Northwest), Kai Karrasch (San Francisco, Calif./The Bay School of San Francisco) and Davis. Stephanie Budrock (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) also got off a shot for Goucher in the first OT, but it went wide.
There were five shots taken by the two teams in the second extra session, but none of them were on goal.
Goucher is one of three teams that still has a shot at the one unclaimed spot in the Landmark Conference playoffs next month, but the Gophers will immedtaely be eliminated unless they defeat Susquehanna in the final game of the regular season on Saturday.
