TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College women's soccer (3-1-2, Landmark 0-0-0) lost their first game of the 2017 season to University of Mary Washington (4-3-0, CAC 0-0-0) 3-1 at home on Beldon Field.
Sophomore Corinne Carson, for the Eagles, found the back of the net first with a cross from junior Christina Carlston off a corner kick in the 12th minute.
UMW's junior Lauren Brower put the Eagles' up 2-0 after she rebounded a saved shot and buried it in the back of the net just before the half.
Senior Bri Hite (Port Republic, Md.) retaliated for the Gophers with a volley off a bouncing corner kick from sophomore Gracie LeFevre (Glenwood, Md.) with only three minutes left in the opening half.
At the intermission, Goucher trailed 2-1.
UMW continued to put Goucher on the defensive throughout the second half. Junior Lizzie Brooks hit a one-timer off a cross from junior Christiana Meyers, putting the Eagles ahead 3-1.
First-year Christina Charikofsky (Eldersburg, Md.) saved 11 shot out of the 14 she face in between the pipes for the Gophers.
The Eagles outshot the Gophers 21-8.
The Gophers travel to Chester, Pa. next Wednesday to play Widener University at 7 pm.
