TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College Women's soccer (3-3-2, Landmark 0-1-0) lost their first conference game of the season to the Eagles of Juniata College (5-3-0, Landmark 1-0-0), 3-2 in overtime.
Juniata opened the scoring with a header goal into the top right corner of the net from sophomore Brooke Rotheram, serviced off a corner sent in by senior Aubrie Christensen. The duo of Rotheram and Christensen scored again for the Eagles in the exact same fashion two minutes later; a header off a corner kick.
The Gophers did not end the first half quietly. Sophomore Isabel Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) put one in after she rebounded a saved shot ripped by first-year Kaylie Derrickson (Lewisberry, Pa.). The Eagles lead 2-1 going into the half.
Goucher had some opportunities early in the second half. Junior Christina Yarrish (Hummelstown, Pa.) connected on a corner, from sophomore Gracie LeFevre (Glenwood, Md.), to head the ball past senior Eagles goalkeeper Kerry Leonard to tie up the game 2-2.
Both teams went back and forth with some close opportunities, but could not capitalize on any shots. The score remained 2-2 going into overtime.
The Eagles found the back of the net four minutes into overtime play. Senior Maggie Pozenel scored the game-winning goal after she received the ball off a blocked shot from first-year Meadow Walshaw Wertz.
The Gophers host the McDaniel Green Terror on Beldon Field next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
