Throughout the course of NCAA Division III Week (April 2-April 9), we will profile several student-athletes who excel not only in their sports but in the classroom, as well.
Our second profile is junior Theresa Antkowiak-Tassone of the women's soccer team. Antkowiak-Tassone, who grew up in the shadows of Goucher's campus in Towson and prepped at Loch Raven High School, has scored 10 goals and added five assists as a forward for the Gophers over the last three seasons. In the classroom, Antkowiak-Tassone was named to the Landmark Conference's Academic Honor Roll this past fall after the Gophers won seven matches during the course of the 2017 season.
Why did you choose to come to Goucher and be an athlete?
Soccer has always been an important part of my life and I wanted to continue to grow as a player while pursuing an education. Playing Division lll was the best of both worlds.
What do you like most about the balance in Division III between academics and athletics?
What I like most about the balance is that I can be fully committed to both. The teachers and coaches are so supportive and happy to work with me to be able to do both.
What unique opportunities has Goucher provided for you in your studies?
Goucher has provided me with many unique opportunities. One was my study abroad trip to Spain which was life-changing. Another way Goucher has helped me with my studies is that they have given me multiple opportunities to network with local businesses in the Baltimore area.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I hope to find a full-time job in marketing/advertising and through this continue learning about business and economics.
