Goucher Athletics Announces Neumann Award Winner
BALTIMORE, Md. – Rylee McDonnell (Estell Manor, N.J./Ocean City), a member of the Goucher College women's soccer team, has been named the Neumann Award winner. McDonnell received the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2020.
The Neumann Award has been presented annually since 1973 to the well-rounded student-athlete who, through his/her character, loyalty, and dedication, has evolved into an effective leader, outstanding citizen, and distinguished athlete. The members of the Department take great pride in honoring the student who has shown, through example, the principles that Bill Neumann, a former chair of the History Department at Goucher, believed in.
"It is her character that should be highlighted most for this award." said head coach Stephanie Ricketts." She is reliable and a person that players and coaches turn to when things need to get done because she always follows through. She is kind and leads with integrity. She also has great pride in Goucher and Goucher Athletics. It has been an honor to coach her and I am so excited she is the recipient of the Neumann Award."
A biochemistry and molecular biology major with a pre-med minor, McDonnell holds a 3.91-grade point average and has been named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll in her final three years in Baltimore.
"I am extremely honored to be accepting this award, and I would like to thank my professors, teammates, coaches, and family members for always pushing me to do my best during my time at Goucher," said McDonnell. "I am sad that my time at Goucher is coming to a close. However, I will take the memories and the moments shared with each one of you forward and cherish them for the rest of my life."
For her career, McDonnell started all 52 games she has played with one goal in her freshman campaign against Catholic and has helped the team to nine shutouts, including a 7-0-2 record in those contests.
Along with McDonnell, Justin Arriaga (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) (men's lacrosse), Zach Brumbalow (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), Adeline Callihan (Keane, N.H./Making Community Connections Charter) (equestrian), Delany Comerford (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) (women's lacrosse), Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) (women's tennis/women's volleyball) were also nominated.
