The first half was controlled by the Goucher College women's soccer team, who dominated both possession and field position. The Gophers' consistent pressure resulted in an early goal, which came in the 10th minute by Taylor Urie (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley), who made her collegiate debut. This early goal earned the Gophers the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Eastern came out of the half aggressively and was able to tie the game on a goal by Brynn Rathsam in the 52nd minute. The game was back and forth through the 88th minute when a foul was called against the Gophers in penalty box and resulted in penalty kick that allowed Eastern to take the lead 2-1.
Jordyn Arecheiga (Vista, CA/Vista) made her collegiate debut in goal for the Gophers and made six saves for the game.
The Goucher Women's Soccer team will be back in action at 7pm on Wednesday, September 8th, when they host Lycoming College on Beldon Field in their home opener.
