Two First Half Goals Push Greyhounds Past Goucher

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Host Moravian scored twice in a 14-plus minute span in the first half as it posted a 2-0 Landmark Conference women's soccer victory over Goucher Saturday afternoon at Makuvek Field.
- Moravian's (3-1-2, 2-0 Landmark) Chelsea Meltzer rang a shot off the crossbar at the 14:25 mark.
- Goucher (4-5, 0-2) keeper Jenna Abaza (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West) made her first save of the game with just over 26 minutes left in the first half.
- In the 20th minute, Alexa Brown headed a corner kick by Meltzer to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
- Lily Shaffer (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) put a shot on goal just after the Moravian tally that was stopped by MU goalie Payce Korpics.
- Abaza made two more saves in the 23rd and 34th minutes.
- With just over 11 minutes left before halftime, Meltzer scored with Brown assisting to make it 2-0.
- Lexie Alvarado (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) and Olivia Chinitz (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Parker Collegiate Institute) had shots for Goucher, with Alvarado's saved and Chinitz bid blocked.
- Taylor Urie (Simi Valley, Calif. / Simi Valley) put a shot on goal just under two minutes in that Moravian relief keeper Paige Harrison stopped.
- Moravian put two shots on frame, with Abaza making both saves.
- Abaza continued to be tested, but came up with four more saves, including on a Danielle Bishop shot in the 74th minute.
- Finley Lindsey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Hamilton) put a shot on goal with just over 11 minutes left that was stopped by Harrison.
- Urie had the game's final shot with just under seven minutes left, with Harrison again making the save.
- Abaza made nine saves as the Greyhounds outshot the Gophers 19-6.
- Korpics made two saves and Harrison three for the combined shutout for Moravian.
- Urie led Goucher with a pair of shots, putting both on frame.
- Moravian took eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
- Goucher steps out of conference for the second-to-last time this season Wednesday night, hosting Rutgers-Camden in a 7 pm contest at Beldon Field.
