Early Urie Goal Leads Gophers to Third Straight Win on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - Taylor Urie (Simi Valley, Calif. / Simi Valley) knocked in a free kick from 30 yards just under three minutes into the game as the Goucher College women's soccer team posted a 1-0 win over Juniata College in Landmark Conference play Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Following an early foul, Urie lifted a free kick from 30 yards out into the top right corner over Juniata (5-6-4, 0-4-2 Landmark) keeper Cati Besch to give Goucher (7-7, 3-3) a 1-0 lead.
- The first Eagle shot of the game came in the 17th minute and was sent wide.
- Lily Shaffer (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) rang a shot off the post for the Gophers midway through the half.
- Talia Bertrando put a shot on goal for Juniata with just over nine minutes left that was saved by Jenna Abaza (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West).
- Juniata had three corner kicks in the first five minutes of the second half but did not get a shot.
- Abaza made her second save of the game in the 54th minute.
- Lexie Alvarado (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) put a shot on goal moments later that was saved by Eagle relief keeper Avery Zales.
- Urie put another shot on frame in the 60th minute.
- Alvarado had another shot on goal with just over three minutes left that was stopped by Zales.
- Juniata held a slight 7-6 shot advantage and took six of the game's eight corner kicks.
- Abaza made a pair of saves en route to her third shutout of the season.
- Zales made all three of Juniata's saves in the second half.
- Urie, Alvarado and Shaffer each had two shots.
- Goucher won its third straight game, its second three-game win streak of the season.
- The Gophers are tied with Moravian with nine points for fourth in the Landmark Conference.
- Before the match, the Gophers honored seniors Shaffer, Caroline Altman (Las Vegas, Nev. / Adelson Educational Campus), Carsen Delmont (Hampstead, Md. / Manchester Valley), Emerson Jewart (New Cumberland, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) and 2020 senior and current assistant coach Christina Charikofsky.
