Late Arianna Carman Goal Lifts Gophers to 1-0 Win

TOWSON, Md. - A goal by junior Arianna Carman (Woolwich, N.J./Kingway) with 4:27 remaining lifted the Goucher College women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Eastern University Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- A shot on target just past the eight minute mark by Claudia Roller (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuro) was Goucher's (2-0) first of the game.
- Eastern (0-2) had its first shot on goal in the 11th minute that was saved by Marissa Specht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot).
- Lexie Alvarado (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and Arianna Carman (Woolwich, N.J./Kingway) had shots in the 16th and 19th minutes that were turned away by Eagle keeper Brooke Moskey.
- Just past the 28-minute mark Daniella Blitz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had a breakaway but her shot was snuffed out by Moskey.
- Eastern had a restart from 25-yards out in the final seconds of the half but a shot on goal was stopped by Specht.
- Spacht was forced to make a save on a shot by Madelyn Mullen just over four minutes into the second half.
- Goucher forced Moskey to make saves in the 54th and 59th minutes on shots by Carly Stevens (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) and Taty Jimenez (Modesto, Calif./Enochs).
- Becca Maddox (Panama City, Fla. / Port St. Joe) put a shot on goal in the 81st minute that was stopped by Moskey.
- Three minutes after pushing a shot high, Carman headed home a long right-to-left crossing pass by first year Jordan Wood (Baltimore, Md. / Sparrows Point) for her first goal of the season.
- Goucher outshot Eastern 14-10, including 9-4 in the second half.
- Specht made four saves en route to her second straight shutout to start the season, while Moskey made seven stops.
- Goucher is 2-0 to start the season for the third time in four seasons.
- Stevens had a team-high four shots for Goucher.
- Eastern took five of the game's seven corner kicks, while each team committed nine fouls.

- Goucher returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Marymount (Va.) for a 6 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home Saturday, September 17 when they host Cabrini in a 3 pm match at Beldon Field. Goucher will celebrate Senior Day prior to the contest.
