ARLINGTON, Va. - First year Jordan Wood (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) netted her first collegiate goal as the Goucher College women's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to post a 2-1 win at Marymount (Va.) University Wednesday evening at Long Bridge Park. The Gophers improved to 3-0 on the season.
- Laney Placido scored in the 10th minute to stake Marymount (0-3) to an early 1-0 lead.
- The Saints put another shot on goal less than two minutes later that was saved by Goucher goalie Marissa Spacht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot).
- Just past the 13-minute mark Carly Stevens (Hampstead, Md./Hereford had Goucher's first shot on goal.
- With just under 15 minutes left in the first half, a long shot by Claudia Roller (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) was stopped by Marymount goalie Grace Needham. The rebound was tracked down by Daniella Blitz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) and knocked home for her second goal of the season.
- Nearly five minutes later a long free kick into the box by Stevens deflected off Needham and was put in by Wood to give Goucher a 2-1 lead.
- Goucher had three shots just shy of the 55-minute mark, with two saved by Needham.
- Stevens had another shot on goal with just over a minute remaining that was stopped by Needham.
- The Gophers held a 6-2 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes.
- Goucher outshot Marymount 11-7 and took all three of the game's corner kicks.
- Spacht made one save while Needham was credited with five stops.
- The Gophers improved to 3-0 for the second time in three seasons.
- Goucher travels to Immaculata on Saturday for a 1 pm contest.
