TOWSON, Md. - A goal with 53 seconds remaining in regulation lifted the Drew University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Goucher College in the Landmark Conference opener for both schools Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Drew (6-2, 1-0 Landmark) put its first shot on goal 3:34 into the game that was turned aside by Goucher (5-2, 0-1) keeper Marissa Spacht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot).
- The Rangers had three shots in the next five minutes, including one off the crossbar.
- Spacht made a save on a bid by Alexa Krause in the 43rd minute as the two teams entered the break scoreless.
- Spacht made her first save of the second half in the 55th minute.
- Drew put three shots in a 1:10 span on target but all three were stopped by Spacht.
- Moments later, the Gophers' Lexie Alvarado (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) pushed a shot wide.
- Taty Jimenez (Modesto, Calif. / Enochs) put a shot on in the 77th minute that was saved by Ranger relief keeper Amina Cirkiel.
- Spacht made three more saves inside the final 10 minutes.
- With just over a minute to go Drew generated a corner kick.
- An initial shot by Jessie Brannick was blocked, but she collected the rebound and put it home with 53 seconds left.
- Drew outshot the Gophers 22-2 and had six of the game's seven corner kicks.
- Spacht made a career-best 10 saves.
- Cirkiel and Anthi Panayides combined for the shutout in goal for Drew, making one save.
- Goucher travels to Neumann on Tuesday afternoon for a 4 pm contest.
