Women's Soccer Lands Six on CSC Academic All-District Team
TOWSON, Md. - A total of six members of the Goucher College women's soccer program were named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Team for 2022. Senior Daniella Blitz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), sophomore Olivia Catania (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton), junior Taty Jimenez (Modesto, Calif./Enochs), junior Marissa Spacht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot), junior Belle St. Jean (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and junior Carly Stevens (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) were all recognized.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced in early December.
In order to be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with at least one full academic year at their current institution. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve appearing in at least 50% of a team's contests.
Blitz, a double major in Communications and Economics, played in all 18 games this season and was in the starting lineup 11 times. She totaled two goals and two assists for eight points. Over her four years, with the 2020 campaign not played, Blitz appeared in 40 games and was in the starting lineup 15 times.
Catania, a Biology major with a minor in Chemistry, played in all 18 games as a defender and was in the starting lineup 15 times. She started each of Goucher's final 12 games and has appeared in 27 games over her first two seasons in a Gopher uniform.
Jimenez, an International Relations and Professional Writing major with a minor in Legal Studies, played in and started 17 of Goucher's 18 games this season. She totaled two goals and an assist for five points, scoring the game-winning goals in 1-0 wins over Neumann and Rutgers-Camden on the road.
Spacht, a Psychology major minoring in History and Studio Art, played every second in goal for the Gophers this season. She posted a single-season program record nine shutouts and registered a 1.00 goals-against average and .806 save percentage. Spacht was a two-time Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week award winner.
St. Jean, a Psychology major, earned Landmark All-Conference honors as a First Team defender this season after being named Second Team as a sophomore in 2021. One of two players to start all 18 games for the Gophers, St. Jean was the anchor of Goucher's backline and became just Goucher's fourth Landmark First Team All-Conference selection since it joined the conference as a founding member in 2007.
Stevens, a Psychology major with a minor in Studio Art, also started all 18 games in 2022. The midfielder finished with a goal and three assists for five points, scoring the game-winning goal in the season opener against Gettysburg.
Goucher finished 8-7-3 in 2022, recording its most victories and finishing above .500 for the first time since 2015. The Gophers finished with the lowest team goals-against average since 2012 and posted nine shutouts while making the program's first-ever ECAC Championship appearance, qualifying for the semifinals.
