Gophers Drop Opener to Defending Landmark Champs
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher opened its 2011-12 season today against the defending Landmark Conference champions and, even with freshman Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) earning 27 points with first-place finishes in three individual events, the Gophers came up short against Susquehanna, 157-86.
Craver Touches First in Both Breaststroke Events, 200 IM
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher opened its 2011-12 season today against the defending Landmark Conference champions and, even with freshman Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) earning 27 points with first-place finishes in three individual events, the Gophers came up short against Susquehanna, 157-86.
Before the outcome of the meet was determined, the Crusaders (1-0, 1-0 Landmark) filled both first and second places in seven of the 10 contested individual events. Craver prevented 1-2 finishes by Susquehanna in the breaststroke events by touching first in both of them. Her winning times were :34.24 in the 50-yard breast and 1:14.55 in the 100.
Craver also picked up nine points for the Gophers (0-1, 0-1 Landmark) by winning the 200-yard individual medley, completing that event in 2:23.63.
Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was runner-up by 3.21 seconds to Susquehanna's Devin Lessard in the 100 butterfly as Lessard was clocked at 1:02.77. Adinolfi added first place in the 50 butterfly (:29.25) after the Crusaders began swimming exhibitions.
