Women’s Tennis’ Morgan Hartman and Women’s Swimming’s Hal Stewart Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Every week in the fall semester, Goucher Athletics names two Scholar-Athletes of the Week for their achievements in the classroom. This week's features are women's tennis senior Morgan Hartman (Woodstock, Vt. / Woodstock Union) and women's swimming junior Hal Stewart (Chesapeake, Va. / Indian River).
Hartman, a double major in International Relations and French, holds a 3.84 GPA and was named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll in 2018-19 and 2019-20. She made her collegiate debut on October 7, 2017, and went on to win 6-4, 6-1 against Penn State Harrisburg. The rest of that year, Hartman registered a 7-5 mark in singles and eight doubles victories, including six straight-set wins. As a sophomore, the Woodstock native had a 3-0 record in the Landmark Conference. She posted a 7-3 record in singles and 9-5 in doubles action for the duration of the season. Unfortunately, Hartman did not compete in 2019-20 after studying abroad in the fall and COVID-19 canceling the spring season.
Stewart, a double major in Computer Science and Data Analytics, registers a 3.60 GPA and was named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll in 2019-20. The junior displayed numerous top-notch finishes during her tenure at Goucher, but her top four times are as follows. Stewart placed third in the 200 free at Goucher's meet versus Juniata and Scranton on November 3, 2018, with a time of 2:28.22. In the same meet, the Chesapeake native notched fifth place with a time of 5:11.93 in the 400 free. At the 2020 Landmark Conference Championships on February 14, 2020, Stewart had two top 20 finishes, including swimming 19:20.95 in the 1650 free to gain 14th. She also placed 18th in the 500 free, coming in at 5:34.78.
