Gophers Pick Up 6-3 Win at Kean
UNION, N.J. - The Goucher College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season Saturday, downing Kean (1-3) 6-3 at the Alumni Stadium Tennis Courts.
The Gophers (1-3) took a 2-1 lead after doubles. Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y. / Ardsley) and Gigi Bellisario (Elmer, N.J. / Woodstown) posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa. / Dover) and Sara Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) were 8-0 victors at No. 3. Shelby Meek (Halethorpe, Md. / Catonsville) and Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. / The Masters School) dropped a tight 8-6 decision at No. 2.
Goucher won each of the first three singles matches that finished to clinch the victory. Abady trailed 3-0 in the first set at No. 4 before rallying to record a 6-3, 6-1 win. McCaffrey earned the fourth Gopher point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles, with Healy clinching the match at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
DiGiovanni had the other Goucher point in singles, registering a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Bellisario forced a tiebreaker at No. 2 before falling 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
Goucher closes out its fall season next Saturday and Sunday as it hosts the Goucher Invitational at the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center.
