TOWSON, Md. - Buoyed by a 3-0 sweep in doubles, the Goucher College women's tennis team opened the spring with an 8-1 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Dover) and Sara Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) earned Goucher's (2-3) first point with an 8-2 win at No. 3.
- Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) and Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) prevailed 8-5 at No. 2.
- Anais Dhillon (Cambridge, England / Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Gigi Bellisario (Elmer, N.J. / Woodstown) won 8-4 at No. 1 against the Seahawks (2-3).
- Bellisario took the first singles point for the Gophers with a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 3.
- DiGiovanni clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5.
- Dhillon rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1.
- McCaffrey was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 2, while Healy prevailed 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.
- Abady battled before dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 4.
- Goucher has won two straight dating back to the fall.
- DiGiovanni improved to 4-1 in singles play this season and has won three straight.
- Goucher remains home next weekend, hosting Marymount (Va.) next Saturday at 1 pm at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
