Third-Seeded Greyhounds Use Quick Start to Down No. 2 Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Third-seeded Moravian University swept three tightly-contested doubles matches as it went on to upend second-seeded Goucher College 5-2 in the semifinals of the 2022 Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tuesday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center. The Greyhounds, the defending conference champions, will travel to top-seeded Drew on Saturday.
- Moravian (14-3) took all three doubles matches from Goucher (9-10) by close scores.
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y/Ardsley) and Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 2.
- At No. 1, Anais Dhillon (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Gigi Belisario (Elmer, N.J./Woodstown) fell 8-5.
- Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Dover) and Sara Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) also fell by an 8-5 score at No. 3.
- Dhillon earned the first point of the match for the Gophers at No. 1, dispatching her opponent 6-0, 6-1.
- Abady fought back in her match at No. 3 before suffering a 6-0, 7-5 defeat to put the Greyhounds up 4-1.
- McCaffrey prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 to pick up the hosts' second point.
- Moravian clinched the match at No. 4 with Bellisario dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision.
- At the point of stoppage, Healy had rallied to force a third set at No. 6 and was leading 0-6, 7-5, 1-0.
- DiGiovanni also led at the stoppage, as she was up 7-5, 3-2.
- Goucher was making its first Landmark Conference tournament appearance since 2019.
- Dhillon finishes the season 8-4 at No. 1 singles and ends the season on a five-match win streak, while McCaffrey wrapped up with a 9-6 singles mark.
- Moravian has captured the last two Landmark titles, as it also won in 2019 before the tournament was not contested in 2020.
- The Gophers end the season with a 6-3 record at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
