TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's tennis team picked up its first Landmark Conference victory of the season Sunday afternoon, downing the University of Scranton 7-2 at the Schroedl Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
- Goucher (5-5, 1-1 Landmark) took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
- Natalia Navarro (Francisco Morazan, Honduras / Del Campo School) and Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) made quick work of their opponent for an 8-1 win at No. 2.
- Sarai Oquendo Silveira (Houston, Texas/Harmony School of Discovery) and Shelby Meek (Halethorpe, Md./Catonsville) were 8-6 winners at No. 3.
- Scranton (6-6, 2-1) earned their lone doubles point at No. 1.
- After the Royals tied the match 2-2 with a win at No. 1 singles, Silveira put the Gophers back in front with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6.
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) was a 6-4, 6-1 victor at No. 2.
- Meek clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 fifth singles victory.
- Abady rallied past her opponent at No. 4 for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.
- Jessica Townes (Wilmington, Del./Concord) also rallied for a win at No. 3. After a tight first set, she won 5-7, 6-1, 6-0.
- Meek and Silveira upped their doubles record to 5-2.
- Goucher posted its second straight victory against Scranton.
- Goucher begins a busy week Wednesday when it travels to Elizabethtown for a 4 pm Landmark Conference match.
- The Gophers are back home Saturday, April 8, hosting Drew at 1 pm.
