TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's tennis team earned an 8-1 Senior Day victory over Susquehanna University Sunday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center. Prior to the match the Gophers' lone senior, Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) was recognized.
- Goucher (8-6, 3-2 Landmark) swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead on the River Hawks (1-12, 0-6).
- Sarai Oquendo Silveira (Houston, Texas / Harmony School of Discovery) and Shelby Meek (Halethorpe, Md./Catonsville) made quick work at No. 3 with an 8-0 win.
- McCaffrey and Jessica Townes (Wilmington, Del./Concord) were 8-2 winners at No. 2.
- Natalia Navarro (Francisco Morazan, Honduras / Del Campo School) and Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Master's School) prevailed in a tiebreak in their match at No. 1, pulling out an 8-7 (7-2) win.
- Abady put the Gophers up 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4.
- Silveira clinched the match by topping her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
- McCaffrey won her last singles match at home at No. 2 by a 6-1, 6-1 score.
- Silveira won her fifth straight singles contest, while McCaffrey has now won four in a row.
- Goucher has won five of its last six matches against Susquehanna.
- Goucher heads to Catholic on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 pm Landmark Conference match, then closes out the regular season Saturday at Juniata.
