Gophers Blank Catholic 9-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Goucher College women's tennis team upended Catholic University for a 9-0 win Wednesday afternoon in Landmark Conference action at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
- Goucher (9-6, 4-2 Landmark) posted its third straight doubles sweep over the Cardinals (7-11, 3-3).
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and Jessica Townes (Wilmington, Del./Concord) were 8-0 winners at No. 2.
- Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) and Natalia Navarro (Francisco Morazan, Honduras / Del Campo School) posted an 8-4 win at No. 1.
- Shelby Meek (Halethorpe, Md./Catonsville) and Sarai Oquendo Silveira (Houston, Texas / Harmony School of Discovery) registered an 8-5 win at No. 3 to complete the sweep.
- Townes recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 to earn the Gophers' first singles point of the afternoon.
- Silveira posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 to clinch the match.
- Navarro and McCaffrey each prevailed in three sets in their singles victories.
- At No. 1, Navarro recorded a 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 triumph, while at No. 2, McCaffrey prevailed 6-0, 4-6, 6-2.
- Abady was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 4, while Meek won her match at No. 5 6-2, 6-2.
- Goucher won for the fifth time in six matches.
- Silveira extended her singles win streak to six matches, while McCaffrey has won five straight.
- With the win, the Gophers are assured of finishing above .500 for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
- Goucher is set to wrap up the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Juniata for a 1 pm match.
