Three From Women's Tennis Named CSC Academic All-District
TOWSON, Md. - Sophomores Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School), Shelby Meek (Halethorpe, Md./Catonsville) and Sarai Oquendo Silveira (Houston, Texas/Harmony School of Discovery) of the Goucher College women's tennis team were all named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Team for women's tennis on Tuesday.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced in early June.
In order to be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with at least one full academic year at their current institution. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve appearing in at least 50% of a team's contests.
Abady, a Sociology and Spanish major, was a Second Team Landmark All-Conference selection in doubles this season. She posted a 4-2 conference mark and a 7-9 overall record in doubles action. In singles Abady finished with seven overall wins and was 3-2 in Landmark play.
Meek, who is undecided on a major, finished 8-4 in singles play this season, including a 4-1 record in Landmark action. In doubles she and Oquendo Silveira poisted a 9-4 record and were 5-1 in Landmark action.
Oquendo Silveira is a Business Management major. This past season she recorded a 9-6 singles record and went 6-1 in singles in conference play.
Goucher women's tennis qualified for the Landmark Conference semifinals for the second straight season. Its 10 wins are its most since the 2018-19 season, while the Gophers finished above .500 for the first time since 2012-13.
