Gophers Come Out on Top Against Juniata

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College led Juniata College 5-1 and dropped two three-set singles matches as it downed the Eagles 5-4 in Landmark Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Goucher (9-7, 6-2 Landmark) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles over Juniata (3-9, 1-6).
- Lucy Ingraham and Jessica Townes recorded an 8-2 win at No. 2.
- Meline Siggen and Aaliyah Ybarra posted an 8-4 win at No. 3.
- The Gophers made quick work of their opponents in the bottom three flights.
- Ybarra and Sarai Oquendo Silveira each dropped just one game as they posted wins at No. 5 (Silveira) and No. 6 (Ybarra).
- Shelby Meek registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1.
- Ingraham and Eliza Abady went to third-set tiebreakers in their matches at No. 2 and No. 3.
- Ingraham forced a third set at No. 2 before falling 7-5, 1-6, 10-8.
- At No. 3, Abady dropped a 6-4, 6-2, 12-10 decision.
- Goucher has won two in a row and five of its last six matches.
- The Gophers moved into sole possession of third place in the Landmark standings with the win.
- Ybarra won her seventh straight singles match, improving to 7-1, while Meek posted her fifth straight victory.
- Ingraham and Townes won their third straight doubles match.
- Goucher wraps up the regular season Sunday when it hosts second-place Moravian in a 1 pm match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Prior to the game, the Gophers will honor lone senior Ybarra.
