Litz Shares Top Ranking with Pole Vaulter from Moravian

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Goucher's men's indoor track and field program debuted in the top 20 in the region and the top 100 in the nation and senior pole vaulter Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) shares the top spot in the individual regional rankings for his specialty.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its first set of Division III rankings for the 2010-11 indoor season today and head coach John Caslin's men are listed at No. 18 in the Mideast Region and No. 89 nationally. The only Landmark Conference program ranked ahead of the Gophers is Moravian, which is No. 6 in the Mideast and No. 36 in the nation.
Goucher's women are ranked 35th in the Mideast Region.
Individually, Litz and Moravian's Timothy Layng are the only pole vaulters in the Mideast Region who have cleared 15-feet, 1-inch in competition this season (as of January 23) and they share the No. 1 spot in the USTFCCCA's rankings for the region. Litz, Lang and three additional pole vaulters from other regions are tied for 13th in the first set of Division III national rankings.
Goucher has four other athletes mentioned in the Mideast Region rankings: freshman Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.), No. 5 in the high jump (6-feet, 2-inches), sophomore Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea), No. 11 in the high jump (6-feet) and No. 13 in the 55-meter dash (:06.74), junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek), No. 17 in the 5,000 meters (15:45.64) and senior Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional), No. 18 in the weight throw (33-feet, 10-inches).
