TOWSON, Md. - One day after Goucher picked up its first win over a conference opponent since 2001, head coach Michael Bossom's Gophers defeated Susquehanna, 3-1, to nail down fifth place in their inaugural season in the Landmark Conference.
Game scores were 30-21, 32-30, 23-30, 33-31.
Sarah Kendall (North Plainfield, NJ/Rutgers Prep) contributed a career-high 34 digs to the victory. The last time a Goucher player had more digs in a match was when Kim Opdyke was credited with 36 in a four-game match against York on Sept. 15, 1999.
Three Goucher players finished with 10 or more kills against the Crusaders (9-14, 1-4 Landmark): Megan Smith (Honolulu, HI/Long Beach Polytechnic) had 18, Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) had 14 and Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Dehli, India/American Embassy School) had 10. Smith and Quinn added 15 and 11 digs, respectively.
The Gophers (12-10, 2-4 Landmark) served a total of 26 aces, which is a new school record for a four-game match. Sauvage-Mar accounted for nine of the services aces and Smith for eight.
Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) led Goucher in assists with 47.
