29 Kills Against Falcons Boosts Season Total to 424Oct. 27, 2007
GRANTHAM, Pa. - After her 16-kill performance earlier in the day against Widener, sophomore outside hitter Megan Smith (Honolulu, HI/Long Beach Polytechnic) entered Goucher's final match of the 2007 campaign today needing 28 kills to break the school record for most kills in a season.
And it just so happens that Smith is the only player in school history to have as many as 28 kills in a match - she set the school record when she had 28 kills in a five-game match against Frostburg St. on Sept. 30, 2006.
Today, Smith broke the single-match record - allowing her to also establish a new mark for most kills in a season. She did it with 29 kills in a 3-1 loss to Messiah.
Game scores were 30-27, 30-25, 23-30, 30-28.
The 29 kills against the Falcons (21-10) boosted her total for the season to 424, which breaks the former record of 422 that was set in 1995 by Karen Levi.
Smith's attack percentage in the Messiah match was .359.
In their first match of the day, the Gophers lost to Widener, 3-0. Game scores were 25-30, 30-24, 30-19, 30-26).
Smith put up 20 digs and 16 kills against the Pride (16-17).
Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca)
and Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Delhi, India/American Embassy
School) supplied the Gophers with totals of 46 and 45
assists, respectively, in the two matches.
