MADISON, N.J. - Megan Smith (Honolulu, HI/Long Beach Polytechnic) became the first volleyball player from Goucher to earn all-conference honors since 1999 when she was part of the 2007 All-Landmark Conference Volleyball Team that was announced today.
The seven head coaches in the conference voted the Smith onto the All-Landmark second team as an outside hitter. She was one of only five sophomores to gain a spot on the select squad of 14 individuals representing six of the member institutions.
Goucher last had an all-conference performer in volleyball when Kim Opdyke appeared on the 1999 All-Capital Athletic Conference second team.
Smith, a two-year starter at outside hitter for the Gophers, broke the school record for kills in a season with her total of 424 in 2007. She also set a new single-match school record for kills with her 29-kill performance against Messiah in the final match of the season.
In addition to averaging 3.96 kills per game, Smith supplied the Gophers with 403 digs, 18 blocks, 21 assists and 62 service aces this season. She finished with a team-high .144 attack percentage.
