Gophers Sweep Mariners, Wrap Up No. 5 Seed in Playoffs

Chalk Delivers 37 Kills, 38 Digs in Weekend's Three Matches

Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-22.
The Gophers (6-17, 2-4 Landmark) dropped the two matches it played against Landmark opponents on Saturday, losing 3-1 to Moravian and 3-1 to Susquehanna.
Freshman outside hitter Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) supplied head coach Michael Bossom's victorious Gophers with 15 kills, nine digs and three service aces in the match against the Mariners (10-13, 0-5 Landmark). After 23 matches, she ranks first on the team in kills per set, averaging 2.36.
In Saturday's two matches, Chalk delivered 22 kills and collected 29 digs.
Goucher's opponent in the Landmark quarterfinals on Nov. 3 will be fourth-seeded Moravian. The Greyhounds (13-9, 2-2 Landmark) defeated the Gophers on Saturday 25-21, 25-11, 20-25, 25-15.
On their way to finishing as the No. 2 seed, the Crusaders (19-10, 4-1 Landmark) knocked off the Gophers 25-13, 20-25, 25-19, 25-14.
Senior Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), who served as libero over the weekend, led Goucher in digs with a combined total of 52 in the three matches.
