MADISON, N.J. — Goucher landed a pair of players — sophomore outside hitter Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and sophomore middle hitter Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) — on the 2011 All-Landmark Conference Volleyball Team, which was revealed today.
Each head coach in the conference took part in the voting and the balloting, which was done by position, produced a first team and a second team, both of which consisted of eight student-athletes. Chalk and Kallis were both among the players that were recognized as second-team performers.
Chalk, one of only two players to start in all 35 matches the Gophers played this season, led the team with 374 kills, plus she was credited with 425 digs, 37 blocks and 29 service aces. When she registered 29 kills and finished with a .458 attack percentage in a 25-11, 25-12, 18-25, 25-15 victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Oct. 15, she tied the school record for most kills in a four-set match.
Kallis supplied Goucher with 256 kills, 52 digs and a team-leading total of 153 blocks. She established a new school record for most blocks in a five-set match when she executed 12 blocks in a 26-24, 27-29, 25-23, 17-25, 14-16 loss to Meredith on Sept. 3 and duplicated the feat in a 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 13-15 setback against Marymount on Oct. 8.
This is only the second time in the five-year history of the Landmark Conference that more than one player from Goucher was accorded all-conference recognition.
