BALTIMORE, Md. — Goucher extended its winning streak in its neighborhood rivalry with Notre Dame (Md.) to 11 consecutive matches by sweeping a three-set match against the Gators tonight.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-12, 25-14.
The Gophers (3-6) dictated the match from the service line, with a commanding 16-1 advantage in aces, led by a career-high nine by Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park). The junior outside hitter's total is the most by a Goucher player since Claire Sauvage-Mar also recorded nine service aces against Washington Bible in 2008.
Defensively, the team forced numerous errors from the hosts, limiting the Gators (3-3) to their lowest hitting percentage of the season, -.148. Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) added two solo blocks and one assisted block for the victorious Gophers.
The last time Notre Dame defeated Goucher in the sport of women's volleyball was a 3-2 victory back on Sept. 28, 2006.
