GRANTHAM, Pa. — With Moravian on the horizon, the Gophers took one of two matches today in non-conference play.
After falling in the first set 24-26, Goucher (9-23) rallied to win the next three sets against Penn St. Harrisburg (7-24). The set scores were 24-26, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.
In the day's second match, Messiah (23-7) proved to be too much, topping the Gophers for their 13th straight win. The Falcons cruised 13-25, 18-25, 18-25.
Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led the Gophers in kills in both matches, with 17 against Penn St. Harrisburg and 11 against Messiah.
Her tenth kill against Messiah gave the junior 1,000 for her career, becoming the fourth athlete in Goucher history to reach that milestone.
Leading the way in assists against Messiah was Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) with 12. Her 23 in the other match was second only to the 26 from Tori Rain (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial).
Goucher travels to Moravian for the first round of the Landmark Conference tournament on Wednesday in a rematch of a three-set Greyhound win earlier this year.
