Gophers Off to Best Start in Seven Years After Wesley Sweep
TOWSON, Md. – After winning three of four matches on the road to start the season, Goucher kept the momentum going in its home opener with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-8 victory over Wesley at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center this evening.

The Gophers (4-1) have now won four matches in a row for the first time since a five-game stretch from Oct. 18-Nov. 4, 2009, while the team is off to its best start since a 6-0 beginning in 2006. Wesley drops to 2-2 with the defeat.
Goucher led comfortably throughout each of the three sets. Megan Chalk led the way with eight kills and eight digs for the Gophers. Corinne Kahler added six kills and nine digs, while Hannah Kuehl had six kills and a team-best .385 attack percentage.
Setter Sarah Johnson drilled three service aces to go along with her 27 assists. Goucher had eight aces as a team compared to just one for Wesley. Tori Rain had a pair, while Chalk, Addie Lanzarotta and Malia Bruce each had one.
For the match, Goucher managed a .308 attack percentage, compared to -.092 for the Wolverines.
The Gophers will look to continue their hot start at the Greg Giovannazzi Memorial Tournament this weekend. Goucher begins tournament play Friday with a Noon matchup against host school Johns Hopkins, followed by a 4 p.m. tilt against North Carolina Wesleyan.
