WASHINGTON -- Facing a Juniata squad that has dropped only seven sets in the seven-year history of the Landmark Conference, the Goucher volleyball team could not add to that total, as the Gophers fell 19-25, 14-25, 14-25 this morning to conclude regular-season conference play.
Goucher (9-16, 0-5 Landmark) did manage to pick up its most points in a set against the 10th-ranked Eagles since 2010 with their 19-point effort in the opening set. Juniata (23-3, 5-0 Landmark) won all three of its matches this weekend after entering the tournament on a rare two-match losing streak.
Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) led the Gophers with one of her best offensive outputs of the season. The sophomore had a team-high nine kills with a .438 attack percentage that ranked as her third-highest of 2013. Today marks the third time she has recorded at least nine kills in a three-set match.
Meredith Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) tied for the team lead with seven digs apiece, while Chalk added six kills. Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) chipped in all 21 of Goucher's assists along with five digs.
Goucher's team attack percentage of .194 was its highest since a five-set victory over Kean on Sept. 28.
The Gophers return to non-conference action with a difficult matchup at Salisbury at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Sea Gulls (22-4) have won 9 of 11, including a five-set upset of Juniata last weekend.
