TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference announced its 2013 volleyball awards this morning, with Goucher's Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) earning a spot on the All-Landmark Second-Team after leading the Gophers in kills for a fourth-consecutive season.
This is the second time that Chalk has received all-conference recognition, as she also received second-team accolades as a sophomore back in 2011. Chalk, who started all 31 matches and played in all 108 sets, ended this season with 348 kills, which was 158 more than anyone else on the team. She was also second on the squad with 372 digs and 50 aces.
"She did everything for the program," head coach Michael Bossom said. "She was our go-to player all four years that she was here. I think she should have been recognized last year as well. She's a great athlete, she's a great competitor, but even more importantly she's a great person."
Chalk had at least 10 kills and 10 digs in 16 of Goucher's 31 matches this year. She set a new career-high with 10 aces against Mary Baldwin on Aug. 31, and her 29 digs against Kean on Sept. 28 was also a new career-best.
The senior outside hitter concludes her four-year career with 1,353 kills (second most in program history), 1,450 digs (sixth most in program history) and 179 aces.
"It's special what she was able to accomplish considering that everyone on the other team knew her number," Bossom added. "They were all trying to stop her, but she was always able to maintain her focus and not get down on herself. She will certainly be missed."
Juniata and Susquehanna split the four major conference awards. Amelia Kepler (Player of the Year) and Heather Pavlik (Coach of the Year) were recognized from the conference-champion Eagles while Sarah Paluck (Specialist of the Year) and Erin Byrne (Rookie of the Year) earned accolades from the runner-up Crusaders.
