Gophers Topped by Shorewomen in Straight Sets

The Gophers (7-12) dropped their fourth straight match ahead of hosting Susquehanna and Juniata in Landmark Conference action this Saturday. Washington (12-5) defeated Goucher for a fourth-straight season.
The Shorewomen led only 11-9 in the opening set after a kill from Hannah Kuehl (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional). The only other point they would drop, however, came on a service error, as the Gophers dropped 14 of the last 15 points.
Set two played out in similar fashion, as Washington pulled away after holding a slim 12-9 advantage early on. Goucher had its highest point total in the final set, but was unable to recover from an early 11-3 deficit.
Kuehl led the Gophers with seven kills, and she also played a part in three blocks (one solo, two assists). Michelle Tweedie (Accra, Ghana/Lincoln Community School) had four kills and a team-high .250 attack percentage, while Meredith Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) registered 10 digs. Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) picked up 15 assists, moving her up to 1,992 total for her career.
Goucher's matchup against Susquehanna begins at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Decker Sports & Recreation Center, while nationally-ranked Juniata takes on the Gophers at 6:30 p.m.
