Moravian Wins Tight Match in 4
Landmark Conference foe Moravian College took down the Goucher volleyball team (5-17, Landmark 0-5) in 4 sets today at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center as part of a conference doubleheader.
TOWSON, Md. - Landmark Conference foe Moravian College took down the Goucher volleyball team (5-17, Landmark 0-5) in 4 sets today at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center as part of a conference doubleheader. Goucher took the first set in see-saw fashion as the two teams tied the score 8 times from 21-21 to 28-28 until Goucher pulled ahead to win it 30-28.
In the second set, Moravian jumped out to a 14-7 lead and never looked back as Goucher had some serve receive issues early. The Greyhounds didn't give up the lead and put the set away 25-16.
In the 3rd set, Goucher rebounded with a solid effort as the teams once again went back and forth to tie the score again and again. Finally, knotted at 26-26, Moravian picked up the final 2 points to take the set and lead the match 2 sets to one. In the final set, the teams reached a 14-14 tie before Moravian pulled ahead to eventually win the set 25-17 and match by 3 sets to one.
Leading Goucher in kills was Greta Coss (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) with 16. Olivia Rhodes (St. Charles, Mo.) chipped in with 26 assists, and Sarah Weeden (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) led the team with 17 digs.
The Gophers will play Elizabethtown later today at 6:30 pm in the Decker Center in their final match of the season.
