River Hawks Ease Past Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University eased past Goucher College to take a 3-0 Landmark Conference women's volleyball victory Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Set scores were 25-12, 25-11, 25-18.
- Goucher (5-13, 0-3 Landmark) jumped out to a 5-1 lead capped by back-to-back kills by Amel Lightfoot (Columbia, Md. / Oakland Mills) and Eden Adcock (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling Regional).
- Susquehanna (15-5, 3-1 Landmark) forged a 10-10 tie, then took its first lead of the match, 12-11, on a Gopher attack error.
- After a kill by Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) tied the set 12-12, the River Hawks scored the final 13 points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
- The River Hawks took control of the second set with eight straight points to build a 12-3 lead.
- A kill by Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii / Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) stopped the Susquehanna run.
- Goucher cut the lead to seven, 13-6, on an Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley) kill but that was as close as the hosts got in the second.
- Goucher used four straight points, including a pair of Chapman kills and a Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) service ace to take a 4-3 lead.
- After five ties, the River Hawks reeled off four straight points to build a 12-9 lead.
- Trailing 23-13, the Gophers scored four straight points that included a Melchor service ace.
- Chapman led Goucher with eight kills, while Bobo tallied six.
- Chapman also had a pair of blocks.
- Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa. / Northeastern) posted 16 digs, her 10th straight match with double-digit digs.
- Kovach finished with 17 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces.
- Susquehanna, which extended its win streak to four, hit .340 on the evening.
- Goucher is idle until next Wednesday when it travels to Penn State Harrisburg for a 7 pm non-conference match.
