Gophers Return to the Court Against Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Host Penn State Harrisburg swept Goucher College 3-0 in non-conference women's volleyball Wednesday evening at the Capital Union Building. Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-14.
- Goucher (5-14), which trailed by as many as three early, pulled within one, 11-10, on an Eden Adcock (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling Regional) kill and a Penn State Harrisburg (16-7) attack error.
- The Lions responded with four straight points to build a 15-10 lead.
- The Gophers chipped away and got within three twice, the last at 19-16 on an Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley) kill.
- A kill by Penn State Harrisburg's Corrinne Cook closed out the set.
- Goucher eked out an early 7-6 lead following a kill by Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii / Kamehameha Schools Kapalama).
- After the hosts scored three straight to take a 9-7 lead, the Gophers scored three straight points capped by a Bobo kill to take a 10-9 lead.
- Penn State Harrisburg scored three straight to take a 12-10 lead, before Goucher again tied the set 14-14 on a Bobo service ace.
- After the Lions scored the next two points to take the lead, the guests cut the lead to one three times, the last at 20-19 following a Lion attack error.
- Penn State Harrisburg scored five of the final seven points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Lions scored the first six points of the set and led 8-1.
- Goucher got within four, 14-10, on back-to-back kills by Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville Chili) and Adcock.
- Penn State Harrisburg scored six of the final seven points to close out the set and the match.
- Chapman tallied seven kills, with Adcock recording six and Melchor five.
- Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) registered 24 assists and 14 digs.
- Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa. / Northeastern) and Alex Coffin (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) each posted 11 digs, with Coffin's 11 digs a season high.
- Ruiz reached double figures in digs for the 11th straight match.
- Penn State Harrisburg hit .216 on the night, with the Gophers hitting .087.
- The Gophers return to action Saturday with a tri-match at McDaniel against two Centennial Conference foes. Goucher takes on Ursinus at 2 pm before facing the host Green Terror at 4 pm.
