Gophers Swept at Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Host Elizabethtown College recorded a 3-0 Landmark Conference women's volleyball sweep of Goucher College Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-19, 25-14, 25-13.
- Goucher (3-15, 0-3 Landmark) had the first two points of the match including a Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) kill.
- Leading 4-3, Etown (14-4, 2-1) scored four straight points to build an 8-3 lead.
- The Gophers responded with six straight points, including an Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) service ace to take a 9-8 lead.
- After the Blue Jays scored the next four points, Goucher cut the lead to two five more times, the last at 17-15.
- Etown closed out the set with five of the last seven points.
- Goucher trailed 12-9 following a Turner kill when the Blue Jays rattled off five straight points to go up 17-9.
- After the Gophers cut the lead to six twice, Etown put the set away with four straight to go up 22-12.
- Elizabethtown scored the first four points of the set, but Goucher chipped away and trailed 6-4 following a Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) kill.
- The Blue Jays fired off five straight points to extend the lead to 11-4.
- The hosts maintained at least a six-point cushion the rest of the way.
- Chapman and Turner led the Gophers with six kills apiece.
- Turner added six digs, five assists and a block assist.
- Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson) handed out 10 assists.
- Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) notched seven digs, while Chapman, Bobo and Amel Lightfoot (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) each had two block assists.
- Goucher is idle until next Wednesday, October 12, when it hosts Penn State-Harrisburg in a 7 pm non-conference match at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
