Gophers Suffer Setback to Nittany Lions

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team was swept by Penn State Harrisburg 3-0 at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center Wednesday night. Set scores were 25-18, 25-10, 25-14.
- The lead changed hands three times early, with Goucher (3-16) scoring four straight points to take a 6-4 lead on a Necole Stravino (Quezon City, Phillipines) service ace.
- Trailing 7-5, Penn State Harrisburg (10-8) scored five straight points to take a 10-7 lead, and later extended its lead to 16-8.
- Goucher chipped away and got the lead down to six twice, the last at 24-18.
- The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 5-1 lead before the Gophers clawed back to tie the set 9-9.
- A Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) service ace made it 9-8, then the Gophers tied it on a Penn State Harrisburg attack error.
- The guests scored the next three points before a service error and a Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) kill made it 12-11.
- Five straight Penn State points made it 17-11.
- Goucher got back within three three times, the last at 23-20 on an Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) kill.
- Goucher led 5-3 following a kill by Amel Lightfoot (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills).
- Penn State Harrisburg reeled off eight points in a row to generate an 11-5 lead.
- The Nittany Lions held a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
- Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, Calif./Fort Bragg) led the Gophers with six kills, while Turner and Bobo each added five.
- Turner also had eight assists and six digs.
- Kovach posted 14 digs, while Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson) had 12 assists and eight digs.
- Stravino added seven digs.
- Goucher is back to action Friday, hosting Penn State York in a 6 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
